What colour to choose for walls in the hall?

The hall is a flagship of every household. While opening the door to our flat we reveal a part of our world which is supposed to make a positive impression on those who take a peek at our property.
How should our hall look like?
- optimistic, so that all conversations, relations and meetings can be held in pleasant and favourable atmosphere.
- tidy, so that the size of the objects (particularly during the autumn and winter season) does not overwhelm and distract our attention.
- aesthetic, so that it can reflect our taste and culture.
- functional, so that we can live more comfortably and communication be smoother and more efficient.

The hall colour is an element of the whole interior design. A suitable colour composition depends on the area size, its lighting and materials used, as well as the owners’ idea and preferences. It’s important so that the elements can form a harmonious whole, which contribute to consistent and aesthetic interior.

SIZE
The hall is often tiny with a large number of doors, hangers and wardrobes. Oftentimes it’s a connecting room and its role is mainly functional. For such interiors we ought to choose bright and cool colours which provide ‘breath’ and space. The paint quality should be high since even the tiniest interior and bright wall colours expose them to dirt. As a result, it’s worth making use of paints which do not absorb contamination and facilitate easy removal of dirt.

A trend to open the space and an aspiration for maximal openness of the interior, makes the hall more frequently only a symbolic part of the whole space. The interior colours ought to be uniform or accommodated to the whole interior decor. Most commonly, they are still bright colours which enlarge the space optically and light it up.

LIGHT
Lighting conditions which can be found in the hall are a very important factor as far as colour selection of interiors is concerned. The darker the hall is, the brighter the colour of the walls should be. It does not mean that we can use saturated colours for dark interiors. Artificial lighting can perfectly light up the space and substitute the daylight.

FINISHING MATERIALS
The wall colours ought to harmonize with other elements of the interior. Sometimes the shade of wood, furniture or ceramic tiles might limit a selection of wall colour from the colour palette. The colour is selected on the principle of contrast or harmony, depending on what final effect we want to obtain. We can apply neutral colours, safe for each interior.

AN IDEA AND PREFERENCES
The most important elements which influence the final appearance of the interior are: an idea for its design and the owners’ taste. The current fashions and trends as well as standards are supplementary elements which should be taking into consideration during the interior hall design. However, the most essential thing is that the home dwellers must feel comfortable in it, and the room itself must be a place they identify with, is their pride and a peculiar benchmark.
